TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State University baseball team fell 10-4 to UCLA on Saturday in front of a crowd of 3,623 at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark. The Sun Devils are now 43-12 overall, 20-6 in the Pac-10, with one game remaining in the regular season.
A day after clinching their third consecutive outright Pac-10 championship, the Sun Devils saw their season-long 10-game winning streak come to an end.
Seth Blair took the loss, allowing seven runs on five hits and three walks in three innings out of the bullpen to drop to 6-2 on the season. Jordan Swagerty started and gave up three runs in four innings to take a no decision.
Matt Newman drove in two runs to lead the ASU offense, but UCLA starter Trevor Bauer threw a complete game and limited the Sun Devils to just six hits.
The Devils took an early lead with two runs in the first on an RBI double by Newman and a sacrifice fly by Carlos Ramirez. The Bruins tied the game with runs in the third and fourth innings, but ASU went back in front when Abe Ruiz scored on a wild pitch.
UCLA tied the game again with a run in the fifth, and then the Bruins scored four in the sixth and three in the seventh off Blair to take command. Newman hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh, but it was not enough as Bauer threw his fourth complete game of the season and improved to 9-3 on the season.
The Sun Devils will conclude the regular season on Sunday, facing UCLA in the finale of the three-game series at 1 p.m. at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark.
