Box Score

TEMPE, Ariz. - Washington State defeated the top-ranked Arizona State University baseball team 10-4 on Sunday in front of a crowd of 2,513 at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark. The Sun Devils fall to 25-8 overall, 10-2 in the Pac-10, on the season with the loss.

Seth Blair started and got a no decision, going 4.2 innings and allowing six hits and four unearned runs with six strikeouts. Mitchell Lambson took the loss out of the bullpen to drop to 5-2 despite allowing just one earned run in 3.2 innings.

The game remained scoreless until the fifth, when the Cougars scored four unearned runs to take their first lead of the series up to that point. Drew Maggi had a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth to cut the ASU deficit in half, and then Abe Ruiz came up with a pinch-hit two-run double in the sixth to tie the game.

However, Washington State designated hitter Michael Weber hit a solo home run off Lambson in the eighth to put his team back on top, and the Cougars would score five more unearned runs in the ninth off Lambson and Jordan Swagerty.

The Sun Devils return to Pac-10 action next Friday, when they host Stanford, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium in Brock Ballpark.
