STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 1 Arizona State women's golf team continued their play at the Stanford Intercollegiate as they remained in the lead after the second round. The Sun Devils carded a 13-under 555 (273-282) to increase their lead to seven strokes over second place UCLA and nine shot lead over third place Texas. The Stanford Intercollegiate is held at the par 71 6,156-yard Stanford Golf Course.

"We played well but we did not have as many birdies as we had yesterday," said eighth year head coach Melissa Luellen. "We did play solid though."

Sophomore Carlota Ciganda finished the second round tied for first with Vanderbilt's Marina Alex. The Spanish sensation is 5-under 137 (67-70) after two rounds.

Senior Juliana Murcia fired a team-low 3-under 68 to move to one shot behind leaders Ciganda and Alex. After two rounds, Murcia is 4-under 138 (70-68) and tied for third.

Junior Jaclyn Sweeney is currently tied for sixth after round two at 3-under 139 (67-72). Like Sweeney, freshman Jennifer Johnson carded a 1-over 72 the second day. Johnson also finished in the top 10 following the second round at 1-under 141 (69-72). Giulia Molinaro rounded out the Sun Devils lineup, finishing the second round 6-over 148 (75-73).

"We know the cushion we have is not big," said Luellen. "The girls are fired up to make a lot of birdies tomorrow and come away with a win."

The Sun Devils will again be paired with Texas and USC and will wrap up the tournament tomorrow.
