The Pac-10’s top-ranked defense paved the way for the Arizona State Sun Devils to top the Washington State Cougars 27-14 in Pullman. ASU recorded a school-record 12 sacks and held the Cougars to -54 yards rushing, the third lowest total in ASU history.
The defense forced four turnovers by the Cougars, two interceptions and two fumbles, and was led Senior Ryan McFoy, who intercepted a pass in the first quarter and recovered a fumble in the second quarter. Senior quarterback Danny Sullivan was able to capitalize on the first interception, throwing a nine-yard touchdown pass to senior Kyle Williams.
Senior Dexter Davis had a breakout game as he recorded his first career interception and recorded 1.5 sacks, moving him into third place all-time in ASU history with 29 sacks.
The Sun Devils led the Cougars 13-0 at the half, then wasted no time in scoring again as Sullivan led the Devils right down the field to start the second half. Williams gained 53-yards on a reverse and senior Dimitri Nance was able to finish it off with a seven-yard touchdown run, making the score 19-0.
The Sun Devil offense proved effective as Sullivan went 19-29 for 169 yards. He threw a touchdown to Williams and scored another on a seven-yard run of his own.
In addition to the touchdown catch, Williams had a big night as well, recording 13 catches for 126 yards. The 13 catches was a career-high for Williams. Dimitri Nance was the workhorse for the ASU offense on the ground, rushing for 113 yards and his first career 100-yard game. He also scored a touchdown in the victory.
The Devils return home for another Pac-10 battle with the Washington Huskies on Saturday at 7:15 p.m.
