HONOLULU, Hawai'i - The No. 8 Arizona State University water polo team lost a 16-13 shootout to No. 6 San Jose State on Saturday on the second day of the MPSF Championships in Hawai'i. The loss drops the Sun Devils to 13-14 with one game remaining in the season.

Senior Addison McGrath and sophomore Lynlee Smith continued to do their part for the Sun Devils, as the team's two leading scorers this season each netted four goals in the game. It was McGrath's 65th career multiple-goal game and it gives her 233 career goals as she heads toward the conclusion of her ASU career.

Junior Bonnie Miles added two goals, while juniors Kelly Phelps and Kari Walsh and sophomore Nikki Unbehaun had a goal apiece.

The Spartans jumped on top early and never looked back, taking a 5-2 lead after the first quarter and stretching their advantage to five at the half. ASU cut its deficit to 13-10 by the end of the third, but San Jose State was able to maintain its lead and go on to the 16-13 victory.

The Sun Devils will conclude the 2009 season on Sunday by facing either host No. 4 Hawai'i or No. 7 San Diego State in the tournament's seventh-place game at noon Hawai'i time.
