TEMPE, Ariz. - For the third time this season Kaitlin Cochran and Katelyn Boyd hit back-to-back home runs as the sixth-ranked Sun Devils picked up their second conference victory over the Oregon State Beavers Saturday night at Farrington Stadium with an 11-3 five inning win. ASU's record now goes to 2-0 in the Pac-10 and 30-5 overall while the Beavers fall to 1-2 in the conference and 16-15 on the season.
Giving up three runs to the Beavers in the first, the ASU offense came back hard with a three home runs in the bottom of the inning. Going yard first was Kaitlin Cochran, landing a three run shot to center field scoring Jessica Mapes and Lesley Rogers. Directly following was a solo shot by Katelyn Boyd touching down over the right center fence. Wrapping up the seven run inning was another three run homer by Caylyn Carlson to plate Katie Crabb and Renee Welty.
The rally continued through the second and third inning for the Sun Devil bats. With the bases juiced, Ashley Muenz had an RBI to the second base to score Lesley Rogers in the second while Caylyn Carlson doubled in the third inning, only to score on a wild pitch by Beavers' Paige Hall.
Finishing up the game a mere five innings, Katelyn Boyd hit a shot to left field ending in an error by the Beavers defense to score Lesley Rogers. Securing the run rule win was Krista Donnenwirth with a walk-off double to score Kaitlin Cochran, and the final run of the night. Keeping the Beaver bats damned through four and a half innings of play was junior pitcher Megan Elliot, who allowed only two hits on the night while collecting her ninth win on the season putting her record at 9-3.
Wrapping up the first weekend of conference play, the Sun Devils will finish their two game series against the Beavers tomorrow afternoon on their home turf at Farrington Stadium at 12:00 p.m.
