PALO ALTO, Calif. - The No. 7 Arizona State University water polo team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday, falling to No. 1 USC 19-9 in the Sun Devils' opening game of pool play at the Stanford Invitational. The loss drops ASU to 6-1 on the year while the Trojans improve to 2-0.

The game was tied 3-3 after the first quarter, but USC was able to take a 7-5 lead into the half. The Trojans then pulled away in the third, scoring nine goals in the quarter to stretch their lead to eight before going on to the 19-9 win.

Freshman Bella Morrison made her collegiate debut and scored two goals to lead the ASU offense. Seven other Sun Devils scored one goal in the game, while senior Addison McGrath and sophomore Lynlee Smith had two assists each. Freshman goalie Dana Harvey had two saves.

The Sun Devils continue play in Bracket B of the Stanford Invitational later on Saturday, as they face No. 18 Indiana at 3:15 p.m. PT.
