PALO ALTO, Calif. - Senior Addison McGrath scored four goals, giving her 200 in her career, as the No. 7 Arizona State University water polo team defeated No. 18 Indiana 10-9 in two overtimes on Saturday at the Stanford Invitational. The Sun Devils split their two games in pool play on the day, having lost to No. 1 USC earlier on Saturday, and improved to 7-1 on the season with the win.
McGrath, who is ASU's all-time leader in both goals and points, now has 26 goals in just eight games this season, and it was already her fifth game with four or more goals on the year.
Sophomore Bella Morrison and Mariam Salloum all had one goal each. Morrison has now scored in each of her first two college games, after collecting two goals in her debut against USC earlier on Saturday.
The Hoosiers led 3-2 after the first quarter and maintained their one-goal lead into the half, but the Sun Devils rallied to tie the game at 7-7 after three quarters. Each team scored one goal in the fourth, so the game went to overtime. Both teams scored once each in the first extra session, and ASU then scored in the second overtime to secure the 10-9 win.
The Sun Devils wrap up play in Bracket B tomorrow when they meet host No. 2 Stanford at 8 a.m. PT. They will then meet a to-be-determined opponent in the tournament placement round later in the afternoon.
