The No. 19 Arizona State women's tennis team breezed past Cal State Northridge 7-0. The Sun Devils swept both the single and doubles matches to improve to 4-1.

"After playing indoors all week, I think it was good to get an outdoor match under our belt before heading down to Tucson on Sunday," said 25th year head coach Sheila McInerney.

The Sun Devils only had to win one of the doubles matches to take the doubles point due to the Matadors having to forfeit at No. 3 doubles as one of their players was injured before the match. Ashlee Brown and Sianna Simmons got the job done with an 8-2 win over Whitney Paluch and Ashley Macias in the No. 2 slot. Laila and Nadia Abdala followed up with an 8-3 victory over Nigora Sirojiddinova and Evgenlya Vertesheva.

Moving onto singles, Brown earned the first point for the Sun Devils. The Aussie took down Amira Massi 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 5 slot. Laila Abdala was the second Sun Devil to finish. The elder Abdala defeated Paluch 6-0, 6-2. Freshman Simmons dropped only one game to Macias to clinch the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 4 slot.

Playing No. 2 singles, Micaela Hein shut out Sirojiddinova in the final set to win 6-2, 6-0. At No. 1, Nadia Abdala defeated Vertesheva 6-2, 6-2. The Matadors were unable to field an athlete in the No. 6 slot due to a prematch injury.

The Sun Devils head south on Sunday to take on in-state rival Arizona.

"I think it's going to be a really tough match," said McInerney on the Wildcats. "I think they've improved from last year."
