LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The No. 14 ASU Women's Tennis Team found themselves overpowered Saturday afternoon as they were swept 7-0 by host, No. 7 UCLA at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The loss drops ASU to 13-7 overall and 4-4 in the Pac-10.
UCLA set the tone for the day in doubles as they came out to take the first two matches in the three and one spot 8-3 before they stepped up to sweep doubles with an 8-5 win in the No. 2 spot.
The Bruins didn't let up in the second-half of the match either as they took it to the Sun Devils in singles as well as only two Devils made it out of straight sets with Nadia Abdala taking Riza Zalameda to three as Abdala came back after dropping the first set 6-3 to take the second in a gritty 7-5 battle. Zalameda stormed back in the tiebreaker though taking it 11-9.
Micaela Hein took Yasmin Schnack to three in the four spot as well as Hein took the first set 6-3 before Schnack took control grabbing a quick 6-1 win the second set before taking the 10-5 tiebreak to complete the Bruin sweep on the day.
The Sun Devils have one remaining match left in the regular season as they head to Tucson next weekend for Part Two of their 'Duel in the Desert' as they take on in-state rival, Arizona April 19 at 1 p.m. PT.
