TEMPE, Ariz. - The 2008 Baldy Castillo Invitational opened Friday night at Sun Angel Stadium with the men's and women's hammer competition as the Arizona State University track and field program lifted the lid on the 2008 outdoor season. Three men competed for the Sun Devils with two placing in the Top 8.
Tomas Navarro led the way with a third-place finish as he recorded a toss of 60.74m (199-03) and qualified for the NCAA West Region Championships. His mark also ranks as the fourth-best in school history. Also in the event, Jeff Helwig placed eighth at 55.01m (180-06) while Andy Haas was 12th at 50.35m (165-02).
The Baldy Castillo Invitational concludes Saturday with the discus leading off the field events at noon and the 100m hurdles opening the running events at 5:30 p.m.
