TEMPE, Ariz. - Caylyn Carlson went 2-for-3 with a grand slam and five RBIs on the day as No. 2 ASU Softball wrapped the Wilson/DeMarini Invitational for their third tournament win with an 11-1 five inning win over San Jose State. Krista Donnenwirth was named the Most Valuable Hitter for the weekend, while Mindy Cowles claimed the MVP honors. ASU is now 21-1 overall after four weeks of play.

 

Caylyn Carlson started the rally for the Sun Devils in the second with an RBI double to left center to plate Clarissa Andorfer-Lopez and advance Mindy Cowles to third. Carlson wasn't done yet though as the Sun Devils pushed across three in the third before loading the bases with no outs as Carlson dug in to pull the count full before crushing a grand slam to right center en route to ASU's 11-run third inning.

 

ASU ace Katie Burkhart took the circle for the game, pitching the complete game effort for her ninth win on the season allowing only one run off one hit and striking out eight. On the weekend, Krista Donnenwirth hit .563 on the weekend with eight runs scored, three home runs and 11 RBIs to power the offense while Mindy Cowles went 8-for-13 to hit .615 on the weekend with eight runs scored, one the game-winner against Arkansas, as well as a home run and five RBIs for a .923 slugging percentage.

 

The Sun Devils will rest for a day before returning to the diamond on Tuesday for their annual Field Trip and Sparky Kids to College Day where they will face Creighton at 11 a.m. in Tempe at Farrington Stadium.
