TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 18 Arizona State Women's Tennis Team recorded another flawless score Friday afternoon as they took on the No. 32 Florida International Golden Panthers and emerged with a perfect 7-0 win. The Sun Devils lost only one doubles match on the day en route their fourth win on the season to remain undefeated at 4-0.
In doubles, the freshman Devil duo of Micaela Hein and Kelcy McKenna led the way again as they quickly topped FIU's Maria Vallasciani & Marijana Cutuk 8-1 in the no. 3 spot. To wrap the point for the Sun Devils were Wendy Pilecka and Jessica Leitch in the No. 2 spot who also recorded an 8-1 win over Egle Petrauskatie & Maria Spenceley.
In singles the Devils were unstoppable as well winning all six matches in straight sets. Laila Abdala led ASU with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Priscilla Castillo, and was followed up by Kelcy McKenna's 6-2, 7-5 win over Egle Petrauskatie. To seal the win Jessica Leitch came in with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Maria Vallasciani. In addition Nadia Abdala, Micaela Hein and Wendy Pilecka all brought in singles wins as well.
Laila Abdala's summed up the match saying, "I knew they were going bring a lot of balls back ...that's just their style. I thought the score was going be closer but we are the better team and were at home so we had the advantage. You have to be very stingy against a team like that. They always fight to the end, regardless of the score. We were all very persistent and aggressive.
"Hopefully we can have a good practice tomorrow and prepare for Houston on Sunday. We just have to keep doing what we have been. We treat every match with the same intensity."
