TEMPE, Ariz. - With Kaitlin Cochran, Kristen Miller and Sarah Rice all going long to lead the Sun Devil offense, the No. 2 ASU Softball team wrapped up their second home tournament flawlessly as they topped the Miami University Redhawks 7-3 Sunday afternoon in Tempe to go 5-0 on the weekend and claim the Littlewood Classic title. The Sun Devils are now 16-1 overall after three weeks of play.
The Sun Devils started off strong with a walk to Mindy Cowles before Kaitlin Cochran dug in to take her first pitch of the day deep to right center to give ASU the 2-0 lead. The Redhawks rallied to take one back with a walk and a double to left center.
Sarah Rice stepped in for her first at-bat in the second to launch her second home run of season to left center to cushion the ASU lead at 3-1. The Redhawks weren't done yet though as they tacked on two runs in the third as MU's Robinson hit a two-run home run to left center off a 2-0 pitch.
The Sun Devils answered back in the fourth with three more runs as they capitalized on a Redbird error and tacked on two more hits to grab the lead and never look back. Megan Elliott cruised to her seventh win of the season while Kristen Miller hit her fourth home run of the season in the seventh to seal the 7-3 win.
The Sun Devils will take a day off from action tomorrow as they set to host an exhibition doubleheader versus Team Canada on Tuesday. First game kicks-off at 3:30 pm in Tempe at Farrington Stadium.
