TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State University track and field team competed in the Northern Arizona Tune-up Friday night in Flagstaff, Ariz., with seven women and three men capturing event titles while recording four NCAA provisional qualifying marks inside the Walkup Skydome. The meet was used as the final preparations for the upcoming championship season that gets underway next weekend.

On the women's side, Tai Battle added her name to the provisional qualifiers list as she recorded a mark of 19.31m (63-04.25) in the weight throw to place second overall and record the fourth-best toss in school history. Teammate Jessica Pressley won the event with a provisional qualifier of 19.60m (64-03.75). The final women's provisional mark came from Jacquelyn Johnson in the high jump, who cleared 1.80m (5-10.75) to win the event.

Other victories for the women came from Dominique' Maloy in the 55m dash (6.98aa), Charonda Williams in the 200m dash (23.94), Alana Waterford in the pole vault (3.80m/12-05.50), Stephanie Garnett in the long jump (6.08m/19-11.50) and Battle in the shot put (15.18m/49-09.75). Williams' mark in the 200m dash also ranks as the fifth-best in school history.

For the men, Tomas Navarro recorded the lone provisional mark as he took second in the shot put with a toss of 18.19m (59-08.25). Marcus Duncan made his Sun Devil debut by winning the 55m dash in 6.28aa, just 0.02 seconds from provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships. Rodney Glass, a football player for ASU, placed third in 6.43aa. Joel Phillip won the 400m dash in 47.47 while Matt Turner rounded out the victorious men with his clearance of 2.08m (6-09.75) in the high jump.

ASU will return to action next weekend (Friday and Saturday) when they travel to Seattle for the 2008 MPSF Indoor Track & Field Championships at the University of Washington.
