TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 18 ASU Women's Tennis Team pulled off another sweep Sunday afternoon as they put away the Houston Cougars 7-0 in Tempe at ASU's Whiteman Tennis Center. The Sun Devils are now an unblemished 5-0 on the year as Houston falls to 2-4 overall.
In doubles, the Sun Devils switched it up going with a new doubles line-up. The results remained the same though as the Sun Devil freshmen Kelcy McKenna and Micaela Hein ripped by UH's Salek and Glinska duo with a perfect 8-0 win. Laila Abdala and Lauren Megale paired up in the No. 3 spot for the first time to clinch the point for ASU with an 8-1 win over Lynley Wasson and Vicky Simpson.
In singles, ASU came out to sweep all six in straight sets led by freshmen Ashlee Brown and Lauren Megale, both of whom brought in 6-0, 6-1 wins in the No. 5 and 6 spots. Jessica Leitch came in next to clinch the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Lynley Wasson.
After the match Leitch summed up ASU's performance, "It was one of those situations where we were the better team so we really had to focus to take care of business and fortunately we did that very well today. We all had great positive energy throughout the match, starting from doubles and we fed off each other's energy through the singles as well."
The Sun Devils will remain home as they return to action next weekend at home as they host Long Beach State on Saturday, February 16 at noon in Tempe at the ASU Whiteman Tennis Center.
