FREEPORT, Bahamas - Briann January scored a season-best 19 points and Dymond Simon added 15 to help No. 21 Arizona State defeat Hofstra 80-54 in the Junkanoo Jam on Friday.
January made all six of her field goal attempts, including a pair of three-point field goals, and all five of her free throws for the Sun Devils (3-1), who shot 53.7 percent from the floor.
Jess Fuller scored 12 points for the Pride (1-3).
Arizona State raced out to a 15-1 lead and didn't allow Hofstra to score a field goal until the 11:44 mark of the first half. A layup by Lauren Lacey and subsequent free throw after being fouled gave the Sun Devils a 43-15 lead, their largest advantage in the first half.
Aamira Terry's layup cut Hofstra's deficit to 16 with 14:32 remaining, however Arizona State would answer with a 9-0 run over the next three minutes to put the game out of reach. A three-point field goal by Simon gave Arizona State its largest lead of the game, 68-37, with 8:09 left in the contest.
The Sun Devils will take on Florida, a 67-56 winner over Southern Illinois, for the championship of the tournament's Lucaya Division on Saturday.
