TEMPE, Ariz. - The #19 ASU Women's Tennis Team kicked off the 2008 duel season in fashion Saturday afternoon as they topped the UC Davis Aggies 7-0 without losing a match en route to another flawless season opener.
In doubles action, the #11 ranked sister duo of Nadia Abdala and Laila Abdala set the tone right for the Sun Devils as they took off with an 8-2 win over Randi Schuler and Herzyl Legaspi, which was followed up with successive 8-2 wins by Lauren Megale and Wendy Pilecka and Micaela Hein and Ashlee Brown to sweep the doubles set.
In singles, the Sun Devils remained flawless as Lauren Megale led the way with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win over UC Davis's Kaitlin Callan in the No. 5 spot. Newcomer Ashlee Brown also stepped up for her first match as a Sun Devil to beat Jenna Kappel in the No. 6 spot 6-1, 6-0.
Their fellow Devils followed suit as well with Nadia Abdala, Kelcy McKenna, Micaela Hein and Jessia Leitch all taking their matches with only one match going more than three sets.
The Sun Devils will return to action this Monday as they continue the 2008 duel season against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks. The match kicks off at 11 a.m. at ASU's Whiteman Tennis Center.
