The ASU Men's golf team shot a 16-over 296 and sits tied for 8th place after the first round at the Olympia Fields/U of Illinois College Invitational. The Sun Devils are only eight shots off the lead behind a logjam at 8-over par. Indiana University, Penn State, and host Illinois are all tied for the lead while Stanford's Joseph Bramlett and Indiana's Alex Martin are the individual leaders with 2-under par 68's.

The Sun Devils played solid rounds on a tough course that has humbled some of the PGA tour's best. Tied at 21st, freshman Scott Pinckney and sophomore Jesper Kennegard is tied for 33rd with a 4-over 74. Freshman Chan Kim is tied for 49th with a 6-over 76 and sophomore Stephen Gross is tied for 56th with a 7-over 77.
