MALIBU, Calif. - The Arizona State women's soccer team played Pepperdine to a 1-1 tie on Friday afternoon.

Carly Kallas scored her first goal of the season to give the Sun Devils (1-0-1) the lead early in the second half, however the Waves would even the score with less than 15 minutes left in the contest.

"The good thing is we got a tie in a very difficult place," said ASU head coach Kevin Boyd following the game. "This is a tough place to play and this is a good team we played against. I liked what I saw in the first half, but I was not happy with the we played after we took the lead in the second half."

A 10-2 advantage in shots punctuated the Sun Devils' dominance in the first 45 minutes of the game although they weren't able to get any balls past Pepperdine goalkeeper Kayla Stolte. ASU's constant offensive pressure eventually paid off a little more than 12 minutes into the second half when Kallas headed in a corner kick by senior Kylla Sjoman to give the Sun Devils a 1-0 lead.

Trailing by a goal the Waves' offensive attack slowly started to turn the momentum of the game in its favor. Pepperdine (1-0-1) would tie the contest in the 76th minute when Emily Wynne took advantage of a chaotic situation around the Sun Devils' goal.

"We started sitting back after we took the lead and they came back and got a goal off a sloppy situation that should not have occurred around our box and the next thing we know it is 1-1," said Boyd.

The plus-eight advantage the Sun Devils enjoyed in shots in the first half would end up being even (13-13) by game's end as the Waves outshot ASU 11-3 in the second half and two overtimes.

Kallas' three shots led ASU while sophomores Alexandra Elston and Karin Volpe and freshman Kari Shane each notched a pair of shots. Junior goal keeper Katie Cochran made four saves.

Six Sun Devils - Cochran, Kallas and defenders Liz Harkin, Jessie Richardson, Katie Shepard and Kylla Sjoman - played all 110 minutes of the game.

The Sun Devils play their last of three consecutive games on the road to start the season on Sunday when they travel to San Diego, Calif., to take on the San Diego State Aztecs (1 p.m. PT).
