Game 12 Quotes

3, 1

HEAD COACH Clint Myers

Opening statement:

" is a very good ball club. They are well coached and we knew going into the game it was going to be a battle of two very good pitchers. The difference in the game was we got timely hitting. We got one big hit. You are not going to get a lot of hits and that one big timely hit can make all the difference. It was our five-foot-nothing, 103-pound little hopper that once again got the big hit for us. Between the hit that Jackie (Vasquez) got and the pitching that Katie (Burkhart) had, it was a great performance by both of them. It goes back to what we have said all along; this is a good ball club and we find some way to win. A different hero every night and today we had Jackie with the big hit. We are very excited and happy. This is what we have talked about for a long time to have happen, is play for the national championship."

On the play of pitcher Katie Burkhart:

"I have said it now for three years that I think Katie is one of the best, if not the best pitcher in the country. She has grown as a woman and improved as a pitcher. The legacy that she is going to leave behind as a role model is phenomenal. I am extremely proud of her and glad to call her a friend."

On peaking at the right time:

"I tell it like it is and basically I told my team our best softball has to lay ahead of us. For us to fulfill the dream and take the next step we need to have heroes and they need to come from the bench. We need senior leadership and we need people to relax and play what they are capable of. We want the storybook ending."

SENIOR OUTFIELDER Jackie Vasquez

On her three-run home run in the third:

"She (Kelsi Dunne) is a great pitcher and she had my number this past Thursday when we played them last. Coach started noticing patterns and she gave me a great pitch to hit at the time. I was swinging to score some runs but I was not so sure about three runs."

SENIOR PITCHER Katie Burkhart

On reaching the national title game:

"It feels amazing. This is what we have worked so hard for all season and just dedicated ourselves to get here. To be here finally, this is where we want to be. It is a real honor to be here and see our work has paid off."

JUNIOR OUTFIELDER Kaitlin Cochran

On getting the opportunity to play for the title:

"I just feel like I am living my dream right now. We are so close to our ultimate dream but we know we still have work to do. We are going to do whatever it takes to make sure it happens."

On finally being pitched to instead of being intentionally walked:

"It feels good. Dunne is a great pitcher and I was glad to see some pitches. She pitched well and I was just glad I got the opportunity. I guess it is a stepping stone for the next game because I finally got to see some live pitches."
