TUCSON, Ariz. -

By Matt Storey

One night after wrapping up the Pac-10 championship, No. 2 Arizona State lost 4-3 to Arizona in 11 innings Friday night at Kindall Field at Sancet Stadium in Tucson. The loss drops the Sun Devils to 45-10, 16-7 in the conference, and ends an eight-game winning streak.

ASU jumped on the board first when Raoul Torrez drove in a run with a sacrifice bunt in the second, but the Wildcats took the lead in the third on a two-run homer by third baseman Brad Glenn off Sun Devil starter Matt Newman.

That would be the only runs Arizona scored off Newman, and a two-run triple by Jason Kipnis in the fourth gave ASU a 3-2 lead.

Newman left after five innings, allowing just four hits and two runs, but Arizona tied the game against Reyes Dorado in the sixth on an RBI double by right fielder Jon Gaston.

Neither team could push a run across in the late innings, as Wildcat relievers Daniel Schlereth and Jason Stoffel dueled with ASU's Mike Leake. However, Arizona finally claimed the win with an RBI single by Rafael Valenzuela in the bottom of the 11th. Leake took the loss and dropped to 9-2 despite allowing just three hits and striking out four over 4.2 innings.

The two teams wrap up their three-game series tomorrow at 12 p.m. from Tucson.
