SEATTLE, Wash. - A 12 strikeout complete game shutout from Katie Burkhart coupled with eight Sun Devil hits led the No. 1 ASU Softball team to a 3-0 win over the No. 21 Washington Huskies Friday afternoon in Seattle at Husky Softball Stadium. The win ties ASU's all-time high in conference wins from 1991 and puts ASU at 53-2 overall and 15-1 in conference play while Washington falls to 26-19-1 overall and 5-10 in conference action.
The Sun Devils started the game off on the right foot as they kept their tradition of strong first innings as they pulled the bases loaded with no outs before freshman Lesley Rogers showing patience at the plate as she pulled the count full before walking to bring a run in after a six-pitch at-bat.
The RBI set a new ASU team single-season record topping the old record of 370. Renee Welty followed suit with a seven-pitch at-bat to pull a walk and another run as ASU took the 2-0 lead after one.
Katie Burkhart locked in defensively as she cruised to a 12 strikeout complete-game shutout with Katie Crabb putting the nail in the coffin offensively as she stepped into the box in the fourth to take a 1-2 pitch clear to left field for a solo shot to put the game at a 3-0 score.
The Sun Devils will travel down to Westwood for the rest of the weekend as they take on the fourth-ranked UCLA Bruins Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
