TEMPE, Ariz. - A pair of career milestones were met Sunday morning in the ASU Invitational as senior goalie Caylinn Wallace recorded the 1,000th save in her career to lead the No. 7 Arizona State University water polo team to its fifth game in a row with a 14-4 defeat of Cal Baptist at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in Tempe. The win, which raised the Sun Devils' record to 16-9 on the year, also gave Head Coach Todd Clapper the 150th win in his career.
Wallace, who recorded nine saves against Pacific and 17 against CS San Bernardino in Saturday's games, entered the contest with the Lancers needing just eight to reach the milestone. With seven to her credit, the senior was put to the test in the fourth quarter when CBU went on a 6-on-5 advantage. With 4:32 remaining in the game, the Lancers launched a shot from the right side with Wallace blocking the ball down to end the threat and record No. 1,000. From there, freshman Elizabeth McCoy played the rest of the way, recording two saves and allowing no goals.
Offensively, nine different Sun Devils scored at least one goal, including four with multiple goals, to pace the team to victory. Addison McGrath led the way with a hat trick while Kelly Phelps, Christy Stibbe and Kari Walsh each chipped in a pair. The Sun Devils received single goals from Traci Aparicio, Jennifer Campo, Lauren Hayes, Katy Lawlor and Candice Phillippe.
The Sun Devils will close out the ASU Invitational at 2:20 p.m. Sunday when they face No. 19 UC San Diego.
