Box Score

FULLERTON, Calif. - Megan Elliott pitched a four-hit outing with four strikeouts to lead the No. 1 ASU Softball team to a 4-2 win over the New Mexico Lobos on Saturday afternoon to wrap the 2008 Judi Garmen Classic with a 4-1 record and a 34-2 overall record. With the win, Elliott retains her perfection in the circle with a 13-0 record on the season.

The Sun Devils hit the scoreboard first in the third after an error at third put Caylyn Carlson on first before Mandy Urfer cracked a RBI double to right field off a 2-1 pitch. Jessica Mapes came through to plate another as she hit an RBI single up the middle to take the 2-0 lead.

The Lobos came back in the fourth though with the same story as an error at third put on a runner on which was followed up by a throwing error by Megan Elliott. Two singles later tied the score, but not for long as the Sun Devils put up four hits in the fifth for two runs as Rhiannon Baca started the roll with a double to left center, followed up with an RBI single from Jackie Vasquez. A fielder's choice later put the score at 4-2 after five.

Katie Burkhart entered the game in the fifth to relieve Megan Elliott and collected the save as she cruised to a 4-2 finish and their 34th win of the season.

The Sun Devils will hit the diamond again next week as they host Marshall in a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 25 before heading to the Bay Area to open Pac-10 play against Cal and Stanford over the weekend.
