TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 8 Arizona State University water polo team opened play at the UC Irvine Invitational Saturday morning and dropped a close 8-7 decision to No. 9 Loyola Marymount at Corona del Mar High School in Irvine, Calif. The Sun Devils fell to 8-6 overall on the season with the loss, their third in a row.

Each team scored a pair of goals in the first and second quarters and entered the intermission tied at four before the Lions outscored the Sun Devils, 3-2, in the third quarter. That difference in the third stanza would prove to be the difference as each team scored one more goal each in the final quarter for the final 8-7 score.

Addison McGrath, coming off a single-game record seven goals against Hawai'i on Wednesday night, led the team in scoring again, this time with two scores. Jennifer Campo, Katy Lawlor, Amanda Stepp, Nikki Unbehaun and Kristen Wagner each scored once in the game. Defensively, Caylinn Wallace stopped eight shots in the game.

The Sun Devils will next face No. 16 CS Northridge later Saturday.
