ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Arizona State University water polo team opened its 2008 season at the Michigan Invitational Saturday morning and dropped a 14-5 decision to No. 1 UCLA inside the Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor, Mich. Five different Sun Devils scored in the game, but it was not enough as the team fell to 0-1 on the year while the Bruins moved to 1-0.

Goals were scored by senior Katy Lawlor, junior Addison McGrath, sophomore Amanda Stepp and a pair of freshmen in Lauren Hayes and Candice Phillipe.

ASU trailed 3-1 after the first quarter before heading into the break trailing 6-4. A 4-0 run by the Bruins in the third quarter gave the top-ranked team a 10-4 lead before a 4-1 fourth quarter put the final score at 14-5.

Senior goalie Caylinn Wallace stopped 12 shots in the game while rookie Kaitlyn Morris halted one attempt.

The Sun Devil will continue play at the Michigan Invitational later Saturday as they face No. 18 and host Michigan at 6:30 p.m. EST. ASU will play twice more on Sunday, facing Indiana at 10:20 a.m. ET before closing the tournament against No. 14 UC San Diego at 1:50 p.m.
