BERKELEY, Calif. - Day Two of the Cal/Nike Invitational rolled on Saturday at the Hellman Tennis Courts which saw the Sun Devils dominate in doubles action as two Devils advance to the finals of the ITA Gold and Blue Doubles brackets. Laila Abdala and Lauren Megale beat NU's Samantha Murray and Suzie Matzenauer in a hard-earned 9-8(5) victory. Abdala and Megale will take on Northwestern's Samantha Murray and Susie Matzenauer in tomorrow morning's final.
In the Blue Doubles bracket, Kelcy McKenna and Nadia Abdala beat SC's Carmen Pham and Lindsay McBride 8-4 in the semifinals. The Sun Devils will face NU's Maria Mosolova and Nazlie Ghazal tomorrow.
Jessica Leitch and Micaela Hein also advanced to the finals of their doubles bracket as they beat Saint Mary's Jessica Hoath and Marah Calvo 8-6 in the consolation semifinals.
In other action, Megale also grabbed a singles win as she downed SC's Ashley Pane in an easy 6-0, 6-2 win, as fellow freshman Micaela Hein also won in straight sets as she beat SC's Carmen Pham 6-3, 6-1. Teammates Kelcy McKenna, Nadia Abdala and Jessica Leitch also brought in singles wins in the Round Robin bracket.
The Cal/Nike Invitational will conclude play tomorrow in Berkeley, with the Sun Devils battling for three doubles titles. Play begins with the doubles finals at 8:30 a.m. followed with the finals of the singles brackets.
