Game 2: Northwestern 2, 0

  • With the victory over , Northwestern broke the school record for wins in a season with its 51st triumph in the 2006-07 campaign.  The previous mark of 50 was set by last year's NCAA runner-up squad.

  • Northwestern improved to 6-0 in the 2007 NCAA Tournament.  The Wildcats are the No. 2 seed in the tournament field.

  • Under head coach Kate Drohan, NU is 4-1 against .  The Wildcats also posted a 5-2 win over the Sun Devils earlier this season at the Palm Springs Classic in , on Feb. 24.
      
  • The announced attendance of 5,295 in Thursday's opening session set a WCWS record for Session 1.  The previous record of 5,072 was set in 2001 and featured vs. and vs. .

  • Northwestern pitcher Eileen Canney's bid for the day's second no-hitter was broken up by a bunt single by ASU's Michelle Smith with no outs in the sixth inning.  The senior still recorded her ninth shutout of the season.

  • Canney's one-hit shutout of the Sun Devils improved her career WCWS record to 3-2.  She also recorded a one-hitter in the Wildcats' 2-0 win over at last season's College World Series.

  • With Thursday's victory, Canney stands just one win shy of tying the Northwestern record for wins in a season (33) and career (97).

  • The Sun Devils' Katie Burkhart fanned eight batters in the game, tying her with 's Alicia Hollowell for the Pac-10 record for strikeouts in a season (508).  Burkhart's total also ranks ninth all-time in the NCAA record books.

  • The Wildcats' Tammy Williams led off the bottom of the sixth inning with her 15th home run of the season.  The sophomore was 1-for-3 in the game and is now 11-for-20 (.550) in the 2007 NCAA Tournament.

  • Northwestern improved to 7-8 all-time in the WCWS while ASU fell to 5-11.

  • Northwestern is making its second straight appearance in the WCWS and fifth in program history.  The Wildcats fell to in the Championship Series last season.
