Seattle, Wash. - The No. 1 Arizona State women's golf team continues to hold on to the first-place position through the second round of the Pac-10 Championship held in Seattle, Wash. ASU shot 12-over in the second round for a two-round total of 21-over 597 (297-300). UCLA is in second place, seven strokes behind ASU.
Also continuing to lead the tournament, freshman Anna Nordqvist shot even-par in the second round for a two-round total of 4-under 140 (68-72). Freshman Juliana Murcia, who is tied for fifth, shot 1-over in the second round for a two round total of 5-over 149 (76-73). Sophomore All-American Azahara Munoz is tied for 15th after shooting a two-round total of 9-over 153 (77-78). Sophomore All-American Jennifer Osborn is tied for 19th after shooting a two-round total of 11-over 155. Senior Lindsay Anderson shot a two-day total of 24-over 168 (85-83) to tie for 43rd.
The Sun Devils look to claim its first Pac-10 title in eleven years. In the 20 years of the Pac-10 Championships, ASU has won six times, the last of which came in 1996.
The Pac-10 Championship will conclude tomorrow at the par-72, 6,196-yard Broadmoor course.
ASU entered the tournament ranked as the No. 1 team in the nation according to both Golfweek and the Golf World/NGCA Coaches Poll. ASU also boasts two golfers ranked individually in the top-5 according to the Golfweek/Sagarin performance index. Nordqvist is ranked second and Osborn is ranked fifth. ASU is the only team in the nation to have two golfers ranked in the top-5 and one of only two teams to have two golfers ranked in the top-10. Munoz is ranked 11th.
