WALNUT, Calif. - Jacquelyn Johnson scored 2,266 points in the final three events of the day for a grand total of 5,681 points to win the Mt. SAC Relays heptathlon crown at the event being held at Azusa Pacific in Azusa, Calif., Thursday afternoon. Johnson's score surpassed the NCAA automatic qualifying standard of 5,500 points, sending her to Sacramento in June where she will look to defend her 2006 national crown.

Johnson, who entered the second day of competition in third place, scored 804 points in the long jump as she tied for third in the event with a mark of 5.85m (19-02.50) and moved up to second overall. She then finished second in the javelin with a mark of 40.94m (134-04) to add 685 points to her total, keeping her in second place overall. In the final event of the day, the 800m run, Johnson ran 2:23.48 to finish seventh in the race with 777 points, but moved well ahead of the previous leader to take the heptathlon victory with 5,681 points.

Several distance runners take to the track Friday night as part of the Mt. SAC Relays while other Sun Devils will compete at the Mesa Classic on Friday as well before the 28th Sun Angel Track Classic presented by Coca-Cola takes place Saturday on the ASU campus.
