WALNUT, Calif. - Jacquelyn Johnson scored 3,415 points and stands in third place overall in the hepathlon at the Mt. SAC Relays being held in Walnut, Calif., Wednesday afternoon. The defending national champion in the event, Johnson opened her first heptathlon of the season as the top collegiate in the field and trails only two post-collegiate competitors in the meet.

Johnson started the day in second place as she ran a 13.88 in the 100m hurdles to score 995 points. She remained second overall in the competition after clearing 1.72m (5-07.75) in the high jump, tying for the second-best mark in the event. In the shot put, her toss of 11.65m (38-02.75) garnered her 638 points and seventh in the event, which dropped her to third in the overall race. The final event of the day saw her run 24.82 in the 200m dash (wind aided at 2.9) to score another 903 points, bringing her overall total to 3,415 points.

Johnson will conclude the hepathlon Thursday before several distance runners take to the track Friday night. Other Sun Devils will compete at the Mesa Classic on Friday as well before the 28th Sun Angel Track Classic presented by Coca-Cola takes place Saturday on the ASU campus.
