- Going three-for-three with two home runs, one for a grand slam, and seven RBIs, senior Bianca Cruz lifted the No. 2 Sun Devil Softball team over the Utah Valley State Wolverines Sunday afternoon in the final day of the Wilson/DeMarini Tournament. The Sun Devils won 12-0 to advance their record to 21-2 on the season.
The Sun Devils started off the first inning on the right foot as they rattled off two hits for two runs with Bianca Cruz smashing her fourth home run of the season over center field to plate Jessica Mapes and push ASU ahead of the Wolverines 2-0.
ASU added five more in the second inning after loading the bases to have Kaitlin Cochran walked to bring home Rhiannon Baca before Bianca Cruz dug in to hit her second grand slam of the season and third of her career over center field.
ASU wasn't finished with their scoring spree yet though as they tacked on five more in the third led by a two-run shot to center by Megan Elliott, her fourth long ball of the season. Elliott also excelled on the mound, pitching a five-hit shutout with four strikeouts for her tenth win of the season.
The Sun Devils now hold at 21-2 on the season, and will jump into action again this Wednesday as they host Field Trip Day at Farrington Stadium with an 11 a.m. game versus .
