BERKELEY, Calif.--The No. 19 Arizona State women's tennis team falls to No. 6 California in Pac-10 play Friday at the Hellman Tennis Center in Berkeley, Calif. The Sun Devils drop to 9-7 overall on the season.
In singles, the Devils put up a fight taking three of the six matches to three sets. In the No. 1 spot senior Sabrina Capannolo was defeated by Susie Babos, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6. Freshman Nadia Abdala won her first set 6-0 over Zsuzsanna Fodor before dropping the next two, 6-2 and 6-0. Senior Rebecca Rankin was defeated by Marion Ravelojaona 4-6, 6-4, 1-0.
The Devils also fell short in all three doubles matches. Capannolo and Jessica Leitch gave Nina Henkel and Stephanie Kusano all they could handle before falling 7-6.
The Sun Devils travel to Palo Alto, Calif. Saturday to face Pac-10 foe Stanford at 12 p.m. at the Taube Tennis Center.
