PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Sun Devils missed out on bases-loaded scoring opportunities and fell 6-5 to in-state rival Arizona on Wednesday in front of a crowd of 4,296 at Chase Field at the second-annual Challenge at Chase. With the loss, ASU falls to 21-9 on the season.

Despite compiling eleven hits on the day, the Sun Devils left twelve men stranded, allowing the Wildcats to best them for the first time this season and the second time at Chase Field.

Right-fielder Ike Davis went 2-3 with a walk, and shortstop Andrew Romine had three hits in four tries with an RBI. Brett Wallace and Matt Spencer both had two hits apiece.

The Devils threatened by loading the bases on four separate occasions, but they could only muster one run from a pinch-hit RBI by Ryan Sontag in the seventh inning.

Starting pitcher Brian Flores went five and a third innings, striking out four while giving up six runs, three of which came unearned. Left-hander Joey Parigi pitched two solid innings of relief for the Devils, not allowing a hit and striking out three.

Arizona State now heads to Seattle for a three-game series against Pac-10 opponent Washington starting Friday night.
