TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State University Clif Bar Invitational came to a close Saturday night with members of the Sun Devil program combining to win seven events, post 22 regional qualifiers and record 10 marks that were good enough for the all-time ASU Top 10 as the meet wrapped up inside Sun Angel Stadium. In all, the women won seven events and were led by meet-record performances from Latosha Wallace in the 400m hurdles and Sarah Stevens in the hammer (Friday night).
Wallace won the 400m hurdles in 57.37 to set the meet record while ranking fourth on the all-time ASU lists. Stevens, who set the meet record in the hammer Friday night with a winning toss of 65.43m, also won the discus Saturday with her mark of 56.39m. Joining the duo on the victory stand was April Kubishta, who cleared 4.00m to take the pole vault, and the 4x400m relay of Bridgette Williams, Shauntel Elcock, Jacquelyn Johnson and Wallace, who clocked in at 3:36.10, also a meet record.
The men also saw strong performances with a pair of Sun Devils winning their respective events. On the track, Domenik Peterson clocked in at 20.90 to capture the 200m dash, just 0.02 ahead of teammate and runner-up, Kelvin Love Jr., as both regionally qualified. In the field, Matt Turner won the high jump for the second week in a row by again clearing a regional qualifying mark of 2.10m.
Joining the aforementioned Sun Devils on the regional lists were: Johnson in the 100m hurdles (13.50), Williams (54.15) and Elcock (54.28) in the 400m dash, Jack Mann (3:46.64) in the 1,500m, Marquis Profit in the 400m hurdles (51.91), Ryan Whiting in the discus (54.00m), Andrew Smith (66.51m) and Brad Roth (66.51m) in the javelin and Tomas Navarro in the shot put (17.23m).
Aguayo (fifth) and Alcorn (ninth) each earned a place on the ASU Top 10 lists in the 1,500m run while Roth inched a little higher in fifth place on the javelin list. On the women's side, Macedon ranks ninth in the 800m run, Stevens (third) and Battle (eighth) each moved up on the discus list, Regets moved into eight on the javelin chart and Alana Waterford moved into fourth in the pole vault (3.65m).
ASU will split its ranks and compete in a pair of meets next weekend. Members of the team will head to Palo Alto, Calif., for the Stanford Invitational on March 30-31 while other Sun Devils will travel south to Tucson for the Arizona International on March 31.
