LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Freshman Nadia Abdala beat another ranked opponent Saturday afternoon as the No. 21 ASU Women's Tennis team took on No. 22 UCLA in LA. The Devils fell 6-1 to the Bruins, falling to 7-6 on the season.
In doubles, the Devils didn't seem to have it today as Laila Abdala and Rebecca Rankin were the only ones to pull off a win for ASU topping Ashley Joelson and Alex McGoodwin 8-7(3) in the No. 2 spot. #6 Roxanne Clarke and Kady Pooler hung tough in the one spot, but lost 8-5 to #33 Yasmin Schnack and Riza Zalameda.
In singles, ASU just couldn't seem to get it rolling as the Bruins swept the first five singles matches in straight sets before freshman Nadia Abdala, ranked 45th beat No. 36 Yasmin Schnack 7-6(4), 4-6, (10-8).
The Sun Devils are no 7-6 overall as they return home to host Cornell on Tuesday, March 20 at 1:30 p.m. in Tempe at ASU's Whiteman Tennis Center before heading to Tucson over the weekend to face in-state Pac-10 rival, Arizona.
