LOS ANGELES - The Arizona State women's soccer team was shutout by No. 4 USC Sunday at McAlister Field in Los Angeles. The Sun Devils are now 3-4-1 in Pac-10 play and 9-9-1 on the season. The Trojans improve to 5-1-1 in conference play and 13-2-2 overall.

In front of a crowd of 601, the Trojans scored early as red-shirt sophomore forward Marihelen Tomer fired a shot from the right side that crossed the goal and found the back of the net for the game-winning goal. The score was Tomer's third goal of the season.

"They are a very physical team," explained ASU head coach Kevin Boyd. "We had another slow start. I liked that we kept battling, but we just did not create enough opportunities during the match. Our keeper had one save and theirs had two, so that shows you what kind of match it was; it was ugly soccer."

The loss to USC marked the third time this season that ASU has been defeated by a top 5 opponent by the score of 1-0.

ASU did not attempt a corner kick in the match for the first time this season.

The Sun Devils were out shot 12-6 by the Trojans. ASU junior forward Carla Scanniello recorded a team-high two shots on Sunday.

Sophomore goalkeeper Briana Silvestri had one save in the loss for the Sun Devils.

ASU closes out the Pac-10 season at intrastate rival Arizona on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. MT. from Murphey Field at Mulcahy Soccer Stadium in Tucson, Ariz.
