EUGENE, Ore. - The Arizona State women's soccer team was defeated by Oregon, 1-0, Friday night in Eugene, Ore. The Sun Devils are now 2-1-0 in Pac-10 play and 8-6-0 overall, while the Ducks picked up their first Pac-10 win and stand at 1-2-0 in conference play and 8-6-0 on the season.
"We did not play well in the first half," said ASU head coach Kevin Boyd. "We did not function as a team. We were just not on the same page."
In the only score of the match, Oregon senior Tiffany Smith was able to put the game-winner past ASU goalkeeper Briana Silvestri in the 37th minute of play. The goal came from five yards out off a pass from freshman Jen Stoltenberg.
Trailing by one, the Sun Devils picked it up in the second half of play, but were unable to put one in the net.
"The second half was better," explained Boyd. "We played more like ourselves. We had great chances in the second half, but we were just unable to score."
Silvestri did not record a save in the loss for ASU. The score for Oregon was only the eighth goal allowed by Silvestri this season.
Overall, the Sun Devils out shot the Ducks 14-11 in the match.
The Sun Devils take on the Oregon State Beavers Sunday in Corvallis, Ore. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m.
