Freshmen Jesper Kennegard shot a 1-over 217 (73-72-72) to finish tied for sixth in his first collegiate event at the Ping/Golfweek Preview, which concluded on Sunday (Sept. 23) with 18 holes. It marked the best outing by a Sun Devil freshman in the opening tournament of the season since Darren Angel won the 1995 Ping Preview.

Kennegard tied for sixth with defending NCAA champion Jamie Lovemark of USC.

ASU finished sixth with a 19-over 883 (298-290-295) at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex-Kampen Course in West Lafayette, Ind.

Charlotte posted a 3-over 867 (288=-288-291) to win the tournament.

Another freshman, Cameron Edens, finished tied for 23rd at 6-over 222 (72-76-74).

Sophomore Knut Borsheim tied for 29th at 7-over 223 (75-72-76).

Steele DeWald tied for 41st at 10-over 226 (79-70-77) and freshmen Jed Dirksen tied for 67th at 18-over 234 (78-83-73).

The Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex-Kampen Course will host the 2008 NCAA Championships in late May.

ASU will next play at the Illini Invitational Sept. 29-30 in Chicago. Former Sun Devil Niklas Lemke won the event last year.
