FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The 2007 season got underway for the Arizona State University cross country team on Saturday afternoon as several Sun Devils traveled north to Buffalo Park in Flagstaff, Ariz., to run in the George Kyte Invitational. Both the men's and women's teams finished third in the team scoring as the women recorded 69 points and the men 73. Host Northern Arizona won both team titles, scoring 15 and 28 points, respectively.
The women were led by Ali Kielty, who placed 12th overall in 19:02.9 and was followed across the line by Jocelyn Buras, who placed 17th in 19:21.5. Chelsea Caloia (25th in 20:00.3), Samantha Knobbe (36th in 21:49.4) and Lisa Nelson (51st in 22:47.1) rounded out the five Sun Devil women in the race.
On the men's side, Shane Snyder led the way as he placed 19th overall in 27:28.1 while David Gott was 21st in 27:40.0. David Ryan (25th in 28:05.1), Craig Nobles (28th in 28:12.9) and Collin Eckelman (30th in 28:20.1) rounded out the Sun Devils in the men's 8,000m run.
ASU will take one week off from competition before hitting the course in Tucson on September 15 as the Sun Devils take part in the Dave Murray Invitational hosted by Arizona.
