NCAA WOMEN'S COLLEGE WORLD SERIES
May 31-June 6, 2007
ASA Hall of Fame Stadium
Game 7: DePaul 3, 1
HEAD COACH Clint Myers
Opening comment:
"I think we had a lot more quality at-bats than in the first game. If you look at it, they hit one ball hard. That was it. I believed we actually swung it better than they did. It is not about how many hits you hit, it is about how many runs you score. I thought the kids did a much better job with their mental approach. I thought their character was good. I thought in the end we had a chance to put the tying run at the plate. I am very proud of them."
On the future of his program:
"We are planning on being back. I will tell you one thing, next year we will not be interviewed first (as the losing team). The girls don't feel real well. We have talked about that with the ones coming back. They are going to have this feeling so they understand. We are getting a little better. We are starting to understand some things and we are getting some different type players coming in. The traditions, the seniors we have this year and the seniors we had last year have helped establish that. We want to be at every year and right now we are 2-2. God willing, and if we can continue to play good softball, this is where we are going to end our season. Only from now on we are going to be interviewed second (as the winning team)."
JUNIOR PITCHER Katie Burkhart On her pitching performance:"It just was not a very good performance. I tried to hold it to a 0-0 ball game until our team could get some runs. It just didn't work out that way today."
On the home run pitch she threw to Sandy Vojik:
"It was really high and she just got her hands up. Today was just a little bit of luck and being unlucky. You just have to roll with the punches."
FIELDER Kaitlin Cochran On the loss:"It's just the breaks of the game. We hit a lot of hard-hit balls right at people. It was just like the other day where it is just one of those days where we had some bad luck. I thought our team showed a lot of character, and DePaul did too. It just wasn't our day."
