Daytona Beach, Fla. - The Arizona State women's golf team is tied for 13th heading into the final round of the 2007 NCAA National Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla. ASU shot a 23-over 311 in the third round for a three-round total of 52-over 916. The Duke Blue Devils continue to hold the lead at 16-over.
"I feel really bad for the girls," said head coach Melissa Luellen. "They came in here ranked as the number one team and to have a performance like this. We are sitting here banging our heads trying to figure out what is going on here. I have not seen anything like this."
Freshman Anna Nordqvist continues to lead the Sun Devils and is currently tied for 12th. Nordqvist shot a 5-over 77 in the third round for a three-round total of 6-over 222 (75-70-77). Sophomore All-American Azahara Munoz and freshman Juliana Murcia are tied for 54th after shooting a three round total of 15-over 231 (78-76-77), (76-78-77), respectively. Sophomore All-American Jennifer Osborn is currently tied for 63rd after shooting a three-round total of 16-over 232. Senior Lindsay Anderson shot a three-round total of 31-over 247 (83-84-80) to finish the day in 115th.
"There is another day left," said Luellen. "We are going to have to come up with some kind of goal, try to get the girls to walk away feeling good about something. We are at the national championships and it is an honor to be here. We need to remember that."
Purdue's Christel Boeljon currently leads all individuals at 6-under par heading into the final round. The final round of the NCAA National Championships concludes tomorrow.
