TEMPE, Ariz. - Fueled with Kaitlin Cochran's 16th home run of the season and Katie Burkhart's two-hit complete game with 10 strikeouts, the No. 9 Sun Devil Softball team topped the No. 11 Washington Huskies 2-1 Thursday night at Farrington Stadium. ASU is now 48-14 and 12-7 in conference play with the Huskies falling to 34-15 overall and 11-8 in the Pac-10.
The Huskies climbed on the scoreboard first with their first ups as lead-off hitter Ashley Charters was hit by a pitch and stole second to be brought home by Lauren Greer on a single up the middle on a 1-1 pitch to give Washington the 1-0 lead.
ASU took the lead back in the third inning as Jessica Mapes took first on a fielder's choice as Kaitlin Cochran dug in to take an 0-2 pitch deep to left center for her 16th home run of the season as the Sun Devils took the 2-1 lead after three. The hit was Cochran's 86th on the season, which ties her for the ASU Single-Season record in hits, a record which has been held for 17 years with Ann Rowans 86 hits in the 1990 season.
The Sun Devils will take the field again tomorrow as their final regular season weekend rolls on with ASU taking on the #13 UCLA Bruins in Tempe at Farrington Stadium.
