TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State University track and field team played host to its final home meet of the season as it welcomed in Arizona and Northern Arizona into Sun Angel Stadium for the annual Double Dual before sending the two programs home with a pair of losses to the Sun Devils. The ASU women defeated Arizona, 115-80, while knocking of NAU, 133-57. The men handled the Wildcats, 110-86, while downing the Lumberjacks, 134-59.
All told, the Sun Devils won 13 men's events and 11 women's events on the day with one woman and three men winning two events each. For the women, Sarah Stevens captured the hammer and discus while placing second in the shot put behind teammate Jessica Pressley, who joined Stevens in the 18-meter club with her winning toss of 18.16m. For the men, Domenik Peterson won the 100m and 200m dashes while Marquis Profit captured the 110m and 400m hurdle events.
In the field, Matt Turner took home gold in two events, jumping over 25 feet in the long jump before taking the high jump with a clearance of 2.21m (7-03.00). He moved into fourth on the all-time ASU lists with his high jump clearance. Also in the field, Ryan Whiting again threw past 66 feet, this time winning the shot put in 20.32m (66-9.25).
Overall, the Sun Devils collected 32 regional qualifiers, including 17 from the women and 15 from the men. The men placed 25 athletes in the Top 3 of their respective events while the women posted 34 finishes in the Top 3.
A trio of Sun Devils will travel to Palo Alto, Calif., next weekend to compete in the 2007 Pac-10 Championships Multi-Events, which includes the women's heptathlon and the men's decathlon.
