TEMPE, Ariz. - Even as both teams rattled off six hits on the night, it wasn't enough for the Sun Devils as the No. 7 Softball squad fell to the No. 13 Oregon State Beavers 2-0 Saturday night in Tempe at Farrington Stadium. The loss drops ASU to 41-11 overall and 7-4 in conference play as the Beavers improve to 34-14 overall and 6-4 in the Pac-10.
The Beavers jumped on the board early as Sherina Galvan knocked her fourth home run of the season with the first pitch she saw as she sent a solo shot over right center to up the Beavers 1-0.
ASU couldn't get anything rolling on offense though, stranding nine on base through the night as OSU added another insurance run in the fifth after a lead-off single to Natalie Johnson was brought around with two more singles putting the score at 2-0 before Brianne McGowan came in for the save for the Beavers and shutting out the Sun Devils for the fifth time this season.
ASU returns to action tomorrow as they face the Beavers again in Tempe at Farrington Stadium. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. and will be aired live on ESPN2.
