Stanford Results | Arizona Results

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State University track and field team sent athletes to a pair of meets over the weekend with many Sun Devils recording regional qualification marks while also combining to win 10 events while competing at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., and the Arizona International in Tucson Saturday. In all, members of the team placed among the Top 3 in their respective events 30 times as well.

In Tucson, Domenik Peterson had a hand in four regional qualifiers to lead a successful day in the sprints. Peterson placed second in the 200m (20.74) and 400m (46.55) events before helping the 4x400m relay of Justin Kremer, Marquis Profit and Jimmie Gordon win the 4x400m relay (3:09.70) and the team of Profit, Kremer and Kelvin Love Jr., finish second in the 4x100m relay (40.33). Profit also found success as he won the 400m hurdles in 51.49, the eight-fastest mark in school history and the first time a mark has made the ASU Top 10 list since 1988.

The women's sprints also found success as Latosha Wallace won the 400m dash in 52.49, the seventh-best mark in school history and the third-fastest in the nation so far this season. Her teammates combined to help ASU win all but two of the sprint events (100m dash and 400m hurdles) with Bridgette Williams taking the 200m dash (24.07), Jacquelyn Johnson in the 100m hurdles (13.88), the team of Stephanie Garnett, Williams, Jordan Durham and Shauntel Elcock in the 4x100m relay (45.99) and the team of D'Metra Macedon, Durham, Lauren Hayes and Williams in the 4x400m relay (3:43.30).

Just as the sprints fared well, so did the throws corps as four events were won and 11 regional marks were recorded. On the men's side, Brad Roth recorded a personal-best throw for the third week in a row, this time tossing the javelin 67.47m to win the event and take over the fifth position on the ASU lists. He was joined on the regional lists by Andrew Smith (63.67m) in the javelin, Tomas Navarro in the shot put (17.81m) and Jason Lewis in both the discus (52.35m) and hammer (57.11m).

On the women's side, the trio of Jessica Pressley, Sarah Stevens and Tai Battle each competed in the discus and the hammer with all three earning regional marks in both events. In the discus, Pressley won with a toss of 54.70m while Stevens was second (54.26m) and Battle fourth (52.10m) while the hammer title was taken by Stevens (63.83m) with Pressley (61.18m) and Battle (55.75m) taking second and fourth, respectively.

At the Stanford meet, three Sun Devils earned regional qualifying marks, including two women in the 5,000m run and one man in the 3,000m steeplechase. For the men, Kyle Alcorn ran his first steeplechase for the maroon and gold and clocked in at 8:41.45 to finish sixth overall while recording the fourth-best mark in school history. Amy Hastings turned in the second-fastest 5,000m run in school history and placed second in the top section of the race, running 15:50.19. Corey Randall finished 15th in the second section of the 5,000m run with a regional mark of 16:46.74.

The Sun Devils will take a weekend off from competition next week before returning to their home track for the 28th Sun Angel Track Classic presented by Coca-Cola on April 13-14.
