LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The No. 11 Arizona State University water polo team opened a two-game road trip in California Saturday afternoon with the Sun Devils falling to host No. 3 USC, 15-8, in Los Angeles, Calif. The Sun Devils slipped to 4-9 overall and 1-4 in the MPSF while the Trojans improved to 13-3 overall and 6-1 in the MPSF.
The game opened with both teams netting a trio of goals before the hosts outscored the Sun Devils, 5-2, in the second stanza to build an 8-5 lead at the intermission. Following halftime, the Trojans padded their lead with three more goals to ASU's one before the visitors were outscored in the final quarter, 4-2, to bring the final, 15-8.
Kim Buck and Addison Doud each scored a pair of goals in the game to pace the offense while Katy Lawlor, Kelly Phelps, Amanda Stepp and Lindsay Williams each scored once in the contest. The Trojans were led by Erika Figge, who scored six times in the game. Defensively, Caylinn Wallace halted six shots.
The Sun Devils conclude their two-game road swing Sunday at noon when they face No. 20 CS Northridge at Northridge for another MPSF contest.
