TEMPE, Ariz. - Day two of the Pac-10 vs. Big XII Challenge rolled on today in Tempe, which saw No.3 ASU defeat Texas Tech 7-6 and Missouri 6-0 for the second time this weekend. The Sun Devils are now 26-2 on the year and are headed into tomorrow's championship game against Texas Tech.
Game one versus the Red Raiders saw the Sun Devils pull off a rare come-from-behind win over Texas Tech as TTU jumped ahead in the first inning scoring four after a two run shot to right field from designated player Montana Patin followed up with two more runs off a costly Sun Devil error.
The Red Raiders added one two more throughout the game as ASU's offense slowly came to life, chipping away at the lead inning by inning putting four on the board in four innings before finally jumping ahead for good with a three-run fifth inning with lead-off walks to Heidi Knabe and Michelle Smith who came home on a double to right field from Mindy Cowles as the Sun Devils hung on for a 7-6 win over the Raiders.
Game Two saw the Missouri Tigers shut down by Katie Burkhart, who threw one-hit complete game shut-out with nine strikeouts while being backed by the Sun Devil offense, who put six runs on the board on seven hits.
ASU put two on the board in the first as Kaitlin Cochran and Bianca Cruz scored off singles from Mindy Cowles and Katie Crabb. The Devils caught fire again in the third as they added four to the score with hits from Mindy Cowles, Katie Crabb, Jackie Vasquez and a double from Kristen Miller to bring the score to it's would-be final resting place of 6-0.
ASU is now 26-2 on the year heading into tomorrow's championship game versus the Texas Tech Raiders. The game kicks-off at noon at ASU's Farrington Stadium.
