IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 11 Arizona State University water polo team opened play in the second day of competition at the Anteater Invitational in Irvine, Calif., Sunday morning where it dropped a tough 9-8 decision to No. 7 Loyola Marymount. The Sun Devils slipped to 2-6 overall on the year with the loss.

After falling behind 1-0 through one quarter of play, the Sun Devils scored twice with the Lions adding three to take a 4-2 lead into the intermission. The third stanza saw the Sun Devils storm back with four goals of their own compared to two by LMU to tie the score at six. In the final period, both teams netted a pair of goals before LMU scored the game-winning goal with less than one minute remaining.

Addison Doud led the team with three goals and added an assist while Kelly Phelps scored twice. Katie Hedley, Kim Buck and Katy Lawlor also scored in the game while Ashley Bower and Hedley each posted two assists. Defensively, Caylinn Wallace stopped 12 shots and recorded a pair of steals.

The Sun Devils will now face No. 12 UC Santa Barbara at 2:45 p.m. with the winner finishing 11th in the tournament and the loser taking 12th place.
